Heather Sevcik graduated in 2012 from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing with a Masters of Science in Nursing degree and certification as a nurse-midwife. She initially worked at a rural birth center on the border of Texas-Mexico after graduating, returning to Nashville in 2013 to work with Vanderbilt School of Medicine. There she helped establish a collaborative physician/nurse-midwife practice at NorthCrest Medical Center. In January of 2016, Heather joined the Baby and Company team.
She says that most days her work as a midwife feels like play. “I love getting called to a birth. There’s nothing quite like the awe and wonder of new life. Helping women find their voice and feel empowered is particularly rewarding. I also appreciate the philosophy of midwifery which emphasizes minimal intervention in the absence of complication and low-tech, high-touch modalities including complementary and alternative medicine.”
Her special interests within midwifery include physiologic birth, lifestyle and herbal medicine, and global health. She is bilingual in Spanish and enjoys caring for women and families from all walks of life. When Heather is not catching babies she can be found hiking, digging in her garden, or spending time with her twins Yonah and Yael and partner Jon.
