Guidelight #1: Learn all you can.

Join us beginning January 13 for seven weeks as we explore each of Baby and Company’s Guidelights through guest bloggers, vloggers, and practical exercises.

Our first guidelight is, drumroll please: “Learn all you can.”

There is always something to learn from everyone and every situation, even if you don’t see it immediately. Today we’re going to talk about how this applies specifically to fertility and understanding your cycles.

I teach a class here at Baby and Company called “Conceive,” which is all about becoming an expert in your own fertility. You learn all about fun things like cervical mucus, vaginal sensation, and basal body temperature and how they are all signposts of fertility. We go even further by discussing how to interpret those signs so you understand where you are in your menstrual cycle and when you’re ready to conceive, you can time your, ahem, “efforts” to embark on your journey to parenthood.

This is one of my favorite classes to teach because I find learning about your cycle and what’s happening within your body every month to be empowering, even if you’re not trying to conceive. There’s so much going on, and we can go years, decades even, with it all living in the background. Most women don’t know about their cervical mucous until their twenties or thirties. Wouldn’t it be so wonderful if we learned about this when our bodies began making these changes during puberty? When we take a minute to slow down, tune-in, and be present in our bodies we can learn so much and use that information to understand more about the health of our hormones or to make babies, depending on your goal.

I challenge you today to learn something you didn’t know before, whether that’s information about your cycles or a silver lining following a difficult situation you faced. I’ll leave you this quote from Sarah Caldwell, “Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can, there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.”
