Sharon Johnson . Lead CNM.
Sharon Johnson (MSN, CNM) is a Lead Midwife at Baby+Co. Winston-Salem. Sharon has practiced full-scope midwifery for nearly 20 years, attending thousands of births. She has worked in multiple hospitals and birth centers in Ohio and North Carolina and has also participated in research regarding the safety of water birth.
Prior to her work in midwifery, Sharon worked as a nurse in a high risk labor and delivery unit for more than 11 years. It was during her time in obstetrics that she decided to pursue midwifery, focusing on healthy behaviors, education, and joy in pregnancy rather than treating it as an illness to be cured. The opportunity to focus holistically on women and their families through the pregnancy and birth experience is what drew her to Baby+Co.
Sharon’s particular passions within the midwifery space are water birth, birth planning, and education, with an overall commitment to creating positive birth experiences. She volunteers in community health events to promote the profession of midwifery. She is also a certified instructor for Dancing for Birth classes, which aim to promote women’s confidence and ability for physiologic birth.
When she’s not catching babies, Sharon enjoys repurposing household goods, working on her house, and visiting her sons in Baltimore and San Francisco.
