Kim Fleming. CNM.
Kim Fleming (MSN, CNM) is a Board Certified Nurse-Midwife at Baby+Co. Winston-Salem. Kim worked as a labor and delivery nurse, and also as an antepartum nurse, for three years while she finished midwifery school; prior to that, she had worked as a medical-surgical nurse and a medical anthropologist. Kim was drawn to the midwifery model of care out of a desire for the deep relationships with people she cared for. Given her background in medical anthropology, Kim has a real interest in the ways in which culture and healthcare interact, and she considers it a vital component of midwifery practice to take the time to provide culturally competent and appropriate care. It is important for her to practice in an environment that is safe and welcoming space for people and families of all kinds, and this is part of what drew her to Baby+Co.
Kim has a special passion for LGBTQIA+ healthcare, teen health, family planning, and access to care issues.
When she’s not catching babies, Kim loves reading and spending time with her partner Cassie exploring the outdoors, especially if it involves hiking or paddling. A native Alaskan, she moved to North Carolina for graduate school nearly ten years ago and considers it her second home.
