Amy Wren. CNM.

From an early age, certified nurse-midwife, Amy Howell Wren, has been drawn to the nursing and midwifery philosophy of care. “I have witnessed again and again how a positive and supportive presence for a woman during pregnancy and birth has a significant impact on that patient and her family’s well-being,” Amy shared.

That belief led Amy to first become an obstetrics nurse and later to earn a Master of Science in Nursing and become a certified nurse-midwife. “I enjoy working with other midwives and having the opportunity to give patients bedside support during labor,” she said.

Amy strives to empower women to make educated decisions which benefit their health and well-being. Her interests include promotion of normal physiological pregnancy and birth, breastfeeding, and birth control management. Amy enjoys individualizing women’s care and is dedicated to promoting positive birth experiences and outcomes for women.

Amy and her husband, David, a chemistry professor at Wake Forest University, have two young children. “Our son, Charlie, our daughter, Ava, and our dog all enjoy spending time outside, whether we’re in the mountains or at the ocean,” Amy said. “I love to hike and ski, especially when I make it back to Colorado. I hope to pass my love of outdoor exercise and activity on to my children.”

Amy sees women throughout their pregnancies and afterwards. She also offers annual gynecologic exams and birth control management.
